Oligothiophenes (OTh) and their functional derivatives are used in a number of high-technology applications including OLED, OFET and OPV devices, where the ability to functionalize the OTh backbone allows for the fine-tuning of the electronic properties. AFM studies of electrostatic and morphological properties of oligothiophenes gives the deeper understanding of their properties at nanoscale. This psychedelic 4x4 µm AFM image reveals the morphology of oligothiophene layers on silicon.
